Nigredo, the Black Work, is the stage in which all things return to their essence. Whether by flame or by time, what can no longer endure is stripped away until only truth remains. To the alchemists, this was never an act of destruction, but of preparation. Putrescence and decay become fertile, ashes become soil.
Fire and decay speak the same language: both return us to what cannot be destroyed.
